Yes, participation in the Hackathon is free of charge. However, participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation and accommodations. Students may apply for subsidized transportation through our National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD®) Scholars Program.

No, this year’s hackathon will be conducted solely in-person at the Student Organization Center at Hilles (59 Shepard St, Cambridge, MA 02138). There is no remote option.

This event is open to all students in undergraduate and graduate institutions irrespective of geographical location; please register with your institutional email.

No, you do not need a team to register!

All projects will be developed by teams of 2–5 eligible undergraduate or graduate students, regardless of geographic location.

Participants may form teams on their own or connect with potential teammates through our event Slack channel, which will be shared with all participants closer to the event.

Our winning projects have come from both pre-formed teams of friends/classmates and teams whose members met for the first time on the day of the event!

A background in biology and coding experience can be beneficial but is not required to participate in this hackathon. Enthusiasts from all fields are welcome! Additionally, scientists will hold office hours during the event to provide guidance and answer questions.

Our hackathon is an overnight event, offering a 24/7 workspace for participants.

Participants are welcome to sleep and rest in the venue. To make your experience more comfortable, we encourage you to bring essential items like sleeping bags and toiletries.

If preferred, you’re welcome to arrange your own accommodations outside the venue.

Bring all the essentials you’ll need for your project, such as:

• Laptop

• Chargers, extension cords, and adapters

• Headphones

• Note-taking materials (notebook, pens, or a tablet)

Additionally, consider bringing items to ensure your comfort and productivity during the hackathon:

• Sleeping bag or blanket (for naps)

• Comfortable clothing

• Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, medications, etc.)
